I never said it was a good idea.... that doesn't mean it isn't done...

I've hauled more in my VW that it was ever intended for too :-)

true... but many people haven't ever used them to setup these servers,
so they are not likely to do so to add to them... 

I don't know, but I assume there may be some appliances that don't come
with a compiler (at least installed)... although being based on Linux
they could probably get one on there....

Well, the fact that you and I would not run web servers on Windows and
hold the opinion that they are not "fit" for running web servers definately
doesn't stop it from being done.
