The Decstation 5000/240 is harmless. I measured my 5k240 at around 70 W.
The DEC 3000/600 (same as /400 but with faster CPU) on the other side
blows about 230 W into the air. The same amount of power as the 
Indigo2 R10k Solid IMPACT with GIO FDDI. 
If your DEC3000 gets that hot, there must be somthing wrong. I had it
working in quite warm dorm room. The machine was warm, but not hot.
