Hello all,

All this talk of higher-speed networks caused me to realize I have a
growing number of boxes that have Gigabit Ethernet NICs (Ti PowerBook,
Asst. Dell servers), and I am looking for advice on low-cost Gigabit
Ethernet (Copper) switches...

I have seen Linksys 8 port switches for $175 +/-, and Netgear 8 port
switches for $210 +/- (both at Amazon.com), but I'm wondering if for
fun at home there is a less expensive source such switches.

Is there a problem buying "consumer grade" Gigabit Ethernet switches
(is performance really bad, etc.)? Also, again at Amazon, I'm seeing
low-cost Gigabit Ethernet adapters (like under $40) anyone know if they
run under Solaris/SPARC in PCI-based machines?

I think I want atleast 8 ports, but a 16 port switch would suffice for
a LONG time...

Thanks in advance,

=====
Lionel
