CDDI works just fine on Cat5. Been there, doing that. :) I don't know what the length limit is. Note that CDDI patch cables use a different pinout than Ethernet! But as long as the wiring in the wall has all four pairs connected, you should be able to make converter cables which get the right signals to the right places. --James B.
