This new crap is using rpc, but My alltime suggestion is have your
neighbor download and install the free version of zone alarm and pick th
enovice settings.  It will give a popup every time something tries to use
a port and ask permission weather or not to let them.  I have that same
system successfully employed on my father-in-law's windows machine and
he's doing pretty well with it.
