[rescue] backup software

One thing I *hate* about many solutions, is they are not useful to
the standard toolset.

What I mean is... given a new UNIX system, you cannot use its tools
to recover data from most of these backup systems.

To me, that is a near-fatal flaw.

For the most part, I wish to have a scalable backup system that leaves
the actual archives in a format than can be read without the backup
system.
