>From Sun, today, comes word that they're EOL'ing a few handy parts.
This isn't astroturf for Sun Sales, but a warning that anyone who needs
these might want to go get a few. :7)
I just got my four USB-to-Sun-keyboard adapters from Ultra Spec this
morning, and I was reminded of the question asked here last week about
Sun-to-PS2 adapters.

The SunFastEthernetTM PCI adapter is being transitioned off the Sun price
list. Customers are encouraged to migrate to SunTM GigaSwift Ethernet UTP
adapters, which have higher performance and more features, and can fall back
to 10/100 Mbps.

The Sun GigaSwift Ethernet UTP Adapter provides high bandwidth
server-to-server or server-to-switch connections through copper media at
gigabit speed -- an order of magnitude faster than the SunFastEthernet PCI
adapter. By reducing CPU processing loads, server efficiency is increased,
alleviating network congestion on the corporate computer backbone and
enhancing performance. For details see:

Sun is also transitioning off its price list the SunSwiftTM PCI adapter. The
recommended replacement option is the SunTM Dual Fast Ethernet and Dual SCSI
II adapter ((X)2222A). It has four ports on a single, full-size PCI card: Two
Fast Ethernet ports for LAN connectivity and two Ultra SCSI-2 ports for
attaching to SCSI-2-compliant peripherals. This saves valuable slots and helps
lower cost of ownership by simplifying service and support. This adapter
supports SE and LVD for the longer cable support.

Sun Microsystems is transitioning the Adapter Box for the Sun Interface
Converter to Connect PC keyboard (PS2) to Sun workstation (Sun IO interface).
With the transition of the UltraSPARCR II processor-based platforms, Sun
customers have migrated to the new Sun BladeTM workstations and Sun FireTM
servers which use the USB-interfaced keyboard (therefore this adapter is no
longer required).

The Sun I/O-based country kits are used on UltraSPARC II processor-based
workstations (e.g. UltraTM 5 workstation, UltraTM 10 workstation, UltraTM 60
workstation and UltraTM 80 workstation), volume servers (e.g., Sun
EnterpriseTM 220R server, Sun EnterpriseTM 250 server, Sun EnterpriseTM 420R
server and Sun EnterpriseTM 450 server) and Enterprise servers (e.g., Sun
EnterpriseTM 3500 servers, Sun EnterpriseTM 4500 servers, Sun EnterpriseTM
5500 servers, Sun EnterpriseTM 6500 servers and Sun EnterpriseTM 10000
servers).

New hardware spare parts are available for:

Sun FireTM V1280 servers
Sun FireTM V880 servers
Sun Enterprise 10000 servers, Sun Enterprise 6500 servers, Sun Enterprise 4500
servers and Sun Enterprise 3500 servers
Sun hardware spares are very reliable parts and available at the latest
revision. All design improvements have been incorporated by Sun engineering
and verified by extensive factory testing to minimize compatibility problems.
