[rescue] DLT2000/4000 "loader only"?

Can anyone comment on the meaning of the "loader only" and "standalone" 
stickers found on DLT2000 and DLT4000 drives (and their Dec bretheren)?  I 
have access to a DLT4000 "standalone" drive that I'd like to put in this 
TZ-877 (replacing the TZ-87 "Loader only" drive).

I'm hearing hints that this designation can be ignored, but I'd like to see if 
anyone knows any more details or has experience with this.
