[rescue] Leaving a tape in the drive

Are there any bad side-effects to putting a tape in a DDS drive a day or so
before it's actually to be used?

I.e. is the tape head spinning against one part of the tape all that time,
wearing either the head or the tape?  Or is something else wearing?

Currently, I run backups in the wee hours, but that means I load the tapes 8
to 12 hours before they are used, and they sit there with the little green
light on until the backup starts....
