As well, you cannot judge performance of the CPU by looking at the
clock rate.  Look up the specint and specfp numbers for the R8K and
you will be quite surprised.

Also, SGI took the time to custom-code their C library for each CPU.
So while you could usually take a disk from an r10k and boot it on an
r8k machine, the actual machine code would be quite different when you
did a bcopy() for instance.

I am not sure if they had all the same variants in one C library, or
if there was a specific C library for each CPU that was chosen at
install time.
