Hi Bill,

   R3k Indigos can take up the same graphic options R4k Indigos can
(optional video boards are a different story), though there4s of course no
way to run IRIX 6.2 on them.   That said, my R3k Indigo with Elan graphics
and 56 MB RAM runs quite nice for a machine that old.   And once you get
everything essential downloaded and compiled (which can take quite a while
if you want GTK and GNOME stuff),  it4s pretty usuable even under IRIX
5.3. BTW, you know that the 5.3 IDO is available for free from SGI?  
Otherwhise, if I my memory serves me right there4s gcc 2.95 available
precompiled for IRIX 5.3 on ftp.mayn.de.
