erm, no.  disable sync negotiation just tells the disk not to argue with the 
host adapter about sync speed, i.e. to just shup up and take what it's 
offered, not try to negotiate the speed from it's end.

Older Mylex DAC960's also sometimes have this problem when hooked to newer 
drives.
