Hmm. I did similar things to many NVRAMs but never removed tho old
battery, but I always  disconnected the old one. That is easy to do with
the wire, that goes up the chip to the + contact of the battery. I use
this wire and pin 12 = GND to connect the new battery. I found that this
is the minimal invasive method of connecting a new battery. (And I have
to do it this evening again for my SS2...)
