[rescue] HP 715/50 serial console

When I turn on my HP 715/50 with a serial cable attached to serial port 1,
I get nothing.  I've checked the obvious stuff like 96008n1, etc.  All the
same as what I use for my suns.  I've tried both serial ports

The LEDs blink for awhile, then spend a while with 8 and 1 on, then move to 
having 8, 6, 3, and 1 on.  I can't find docs for what the LEDs mean.  Anyone
care to help?
