The HD's termination looks like it was done at the factory. It's soldered
and insulated way too well to be a homebrew job (at least your average
homebrew job). I took a couple pictures of the jumpers, if you want to see
(sorry for the quality, my camera sucks)

The jumpers are the long black insulation-covered strips in the center of
both pictures, 10 pins apiece. The strange part is that the same
unterminated CDROM drive worked perfectly fine on another box (the one those
pictures are hosted on, in fact).
