Logical PARtition
In essence, a virtual machine all to yourself inside of the mainframe.
The operator can allocate resources arbitrarily to you. For example,
if he has 12 processors, he can say 8 of them are for general use but
in his own sessions he can use those 8 plus the other 4.
Inside of an LPAR you can run any number of operating systems. Linux
is being pushed hard right now. But you can also use other
environments like MVS/TSO or CMS.
