why not?  i have an old 486 thinkpad doing this sort of stuff.  works
great, doesn't use much power, put out a lot of heat, take up much
space, or make noise.  (i'd use it as a laptop, only the kb and screen
are shot).  the pcmcia network cards were 100 yen each.
