Well since I too am from Maryland (went to electronic engineering school
in B'mo in the 70's) and got married in Catoctin National Park (on a
mountain) near Frederick http://www.nps.gov/cato (where I lived before
Florida) I guess I will weigh in with some things to do. Besides the
already mentioned great places I would also chime in with:

Philips Crab House (must do this if you get to the Harbor!)
http://www.phillipsfoods.com/html/rbaltimore.html they are famous for NO
reservations and they fill up very fast. I recommend you either come at
4:30pm or late like 7:30pm.

I used to help run the ham station at the Maryland Science Center (BRATS
Ham club http://www.bratsatv.org/ one of the founders Lonnie Shelton
W3DID was my instructor at above mentioned school) next door but as
sci-centers go it is ho-hum. But still a cheap date. You can cause
Calvert Cliffs to melt down in their simulator which is always fun. ;-)
http://www.mdsci.org/

The National Aquarium also at the harbor. Still ho-hum as aquariums go
also a fairly cheap date. http://www.aqua.org/

Also at the Harbor - USS Constellation ship

Catch a game at the Yard - orioles.mlb.com (do drink the beer and eat
the dogs!)

Edgar Allen Poe House (don't drink the cognac!)

Fort McHenry http://www.bcpl.net/~etowner/patriot.html

And of course who could turn down the National Museum of Dentistry!

For nice romantic beach access it's Ocean City.

If you are willing to head south to the District there's the Smithsonian
(highly recommended) Museums (Natural History, Sci. & Technology - my
pers fav. geek heaven, Air & Space and of course The Castle). Be sure
and use the Metro to get there don't _even_ try to drive it!

And now the really secret geeky things to do:

(Besides the already mentioned NSA at Ft. Meade and Langley)

The infamous "Site-R" in Thurmont (Frederick County):

http://ftp.fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/c3i/raven_rock.htm

FEMA Supercomputer Center underground in Olney (The dome below the
rock):

The NCAR Supercomputer complex at Suitland (which caught fire in 99)
