This is the best railway museum I've ever been to.

You don't necessarily need a car to get to it.  Take the light rail from north 
or south and walk a couple of blocks.


Also at the inner harbor is a Museum of Public Works.  It covers City water 
supply, transportation, and sewers.  (Maybe also electrical power and natural 
gas?)  One of the few in the world that specialize in this topic.  Outdoors at 
the front of the building is an exhibit representing all of the pipes under a 
typical city street.  What a rat's nest (like the wires in my office :^) ).
