I was at the product introduction for the TI-99 -- about 2 years after I had
started programming at age 8. The first machine I worked on was a PDP 11/34
accessed via a KSR-33 at the local University campus. The PDP was more than
60 miles away from the KSR -- we dialed up with a 45 bps (!) acoustic
coupled modem. First programming book was DEC's "Learning BASIC through
Population Growth Analysis" -- still got it somewhere around here.

Then the local University campus got a PDP 11/03 running MUBASIC. Loved the
fact that I could get my programs on 8" floppy so when they wiped the system
at the end of each semester, I didn't have to start from scratch again
without dumping it all to paper tape (they upgraded the KSR to an ASR
shortly afterI started using it).

Did all this because Dad had too litle time to throw the football around
while he was working on his doctoral thesis. Guess it has scared me for
life :^)

now...

I was intro'ed to UNIX on a VAX 11/785 that ran 4.2BSD in '86.

I feel like I have come home :^)
