[SunRescue] More on IPX nvram failure

That message is exactly what you'll get if an M48T02 chip
is used in an IPX instead of an M48T12... So, how sure
are you that the chip used is an M48T12? There is also a
comment made in the NVRAM FAQ that not all manufacturer's
versions of the M48Tx2 work in all Sun boxes. I've had great
success with the ones made by ST Microelectronics that I get
from Mouser Electronics and JDR Microdevices. They have the
"ST" logo on them.

So I'd sugest:
1) Verify the labelling on the chip to make sure it is an
   M48T12.
2) See if you can identify the manufacturer of the chip.
Perhaps it's from one of the manufacturers that aren't
   100% compatable.
3) If your chip is made by someone other than ST, try a chip
from ST (see www.mouser.com or www.jdr.com)

Failing all that, maybe there's another problem with the machine
causing the clock to fail. As Mike Hebel points out in his reply,
there seems to be some population of IPXen that don't like either
the M48T12 or the M48T02. If you've got one of those... well,
you're in uncharted territory...
