Hi all,

Remember the ELC/SLC systems Sun used to make? Well, take a look at this...

Last night the mailman brought me the latest TigerDirect catalog, and there, on P. 21 was a listing for a very novel computer case - it is a "Moniputer" case, a 17" KDS monitor with an LPX case built-in to the base. The monitor has a dot pitch of .28, and there are two models available, one capable of 1024x768 @ 70hz refresh, and another that can do 1280x1024 @66 Hz refresh. There is room for a 5 1/4" drive (CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW, etc) and a 3 1/2" device (floppy, Zip, etc) in the front, as well as two speakers.

This Moniputer case is $99. At TigerDIrect search on "moniputer" - these are brand new, not pulls, seconds, or in any other way "second rate" products.

The best deal I can find for a motherboard/CPU is at www.centrix-intl.com, a PPro motherboard that is LPX format, with built-in S3 video (2 Meg) and Crystal Audio for $29, and a PPro/180 w/256K cache for $12. This MB can take up to 128 Meg, as 2x banks of 2 32 Meg 72 pin SIMMs.

I would prefer to stuff such a system with an LPX motherboard that can take a standard Slot 1 or other "current" CPU, and up to 256 Meg SDRAM, and of course, built-in SCSI, 10/100 Networking, audio and video would be nice too - anyone know of such a motherboard that is a reasonable price?

I think such a system would make a nice upgrade to my son's AMD K5/120 system, all in one box.

Ken
