I've decided that I don't care to try and write real programs in perl.
I'll just stick to short scripts, thank you.  I do most of my work (play
really, "work" is mostly Access) in C++ (trying to get away from it, but
still don't have any other satisfactory method for doing GL yet) and
python.  I'm spending all the time I can find alternately on scheme
(Common Lisp was easy.  Scheme is significantly harder I've noticed) and
smalltalk.

One of numerous projects I would like to do would be to build my own
Holo-Lily (reference to Earth Final Conflict of 2+ seasons ago).  OK, so
projecting a hologram isn't a possibility for me yet, but dedicating a
semi decent video card(say a TNT, or even a Voodoo3 if the drivers didn't
suck so much) to a video monitor wouldn't be too hard.

I want to build on and extend a program like eliza to start with.  I want
to tack on voice recognition (CMU Sphinx), the ability to accept commands
in addition to conversing, and the ability to add new macros via voice
commands.  Later, adding video survailence on my office could be
interesting, and adding a 3D avatar shouldn't be too hard.  Then, we could
get into some really interesting things involving "emotional state" as a
side band data carrier.  Like, perhaps acting frazzled when the network
is over loaded.  I'm thinking that something like Guile might be ideal to
conduct the project in.  It is so easy to bind other libraries to it.  I
do need to check that it has an eval statement.  But, if I want to do this
in Guile, then I need to be much better with scheme than I currently am.
I'm currently working my way through a book known as SICP (too late at
night to remeber what that stands for, but I know part of it is
Interpreting Computer Programs).
