That would be him. I learned much too (though I can't author code to save my
soul). He loved what he did (runs in the family). Oddly, we both started our
careers in the hardware realm (audio/video mostly). Being 17 years older his
experience was solidly based in big systems. I started in micros, drifted to
big systems and now live in the network design/ops world (where I will stay,
found my calling at last). We used to have long heated debates about micro
vs. mini vs. mainframe. After DG he held several jobs working with DG-UX and
AOS/VS. His last job was with a company in Cambridge MA (Intersystems) that had
both Unix and AOS/VS clients running medical billing systems under MUMPS on
various OS's. He was still coding, but mostly maintaining Intersystems
applications for customers and tweaking MUMPS for DG-UX and AOS/VS.
