Very well.  Magnesium isn't exactly easy to ignite itself, but a damned
sight easier to ignite than thermite.  Once the magnesium is lit, it
burns hot enough to ignite the thermite.

Thermite is FUN, and one of the few things I remember from chemistry
classes.  Other than the teacher's demonstration that liquid petrol
didn't burn, using his own hand (missing two fingers) as part of the
experimental apparatus.
