Actually, I think you got the idea, but your terminology is a little off; or
perhaps, their NAS boxes are different from their other boxes (RAID arrays).
They use one controller, with multiple IDE channels, each drive is on its
own separate channel from any other drive; thus, there is no bus contention
(if you load up a bunch of high end SCSI drives on just one SCSI chain,
your bandwidth can get used up by talking to each separate drive) .
So yeah, they use one controller per drive, in that each drive thinks it is
the only device on the chain; but there is only one physical card in the box.
