Don't most of these still have decent FLOP performance? Aside from the
386s anyways.

Perhaps you could find someone who needs to render a series of 3d
animation scenes.  Install POVRay or Radiance and send out frames to
be rendered to each machine.

Alternatively, download and install GRASS (do web search) and offer up
custom topo maps a la MapQuest via the web.
