I use mrtg to monitor my postfix logs:
Title[mail]: Postfix stats
Target[mail]: `/bin/egrep -c "smtpd.*client=" /var/log/maillog; /bin/egrep -c "status=sent" /var/log/maillog; echo; echo`
MaxBytes[mail]: 1000
PageTop[mail]: <H1>Postfix stats</H1>
Options[mail]: growright,nopercent,noinfo,perhour
LegendI[mail]:  received:
LegendO[mail]:  sent:
Ylegend[mail]: Messages/Hour
Legend1[mail]: Received SMTP messages
Legend2[mail]: Transmitted SMTP messages
ShortLegend[mail]: msgs/hr
Should be fairly easy to tweak the grep to search for messages from each
list.
