While we might have better OCR technology in a few decades, the issue
right now is getting it back into electronic data.  You just can't do
that yet without resorting to some form of bar coding or such, and even
if you print the decode algroithm in plain text in three well known
computer languages you might still have a problem because you've gone
from simple optics to needing rather complex scanners.

The other problem of course is production.  How exactly do you
efficiently convert data to microfilm?  (cheaply?)


(and how do you get into the bank vault after a nuclear holocaust or
deep impact or such?  :-)
