On mine, the OBP settings were screwy.  diag-switch? was set to true,
autoboot was off, etc.  Ya might try holding down stop-n at power-on
and see if that helps.  You should default to 1152x900 if it can't id
the monitor.  Snag the pdf's of the ref & svc manuals from docs.sun.com.
They are helpful.  And tell your mail client to quit wrapping at 40
chars :-)
