i personally prefer a nice MAU.  unless you absolutely need switched ethernet
a MAU is a wonderful thing.  managing a pile of tranceivers is a royal PITA
whereas a MAU and some drop cables are generally rather managable.  also, drop
cable bends instead of sticking 1.5"-4" out the back of the machine.  when
space is cramped, an excellent feature.
