Hi all,

We have an interesting problem here. We're in need of a new backup serve=
r=20
for our group so our admin went out and bought off of Ebay an Ultra 10. He
was pretty disappointed to find out that it did not come with a SCSI contro=
ller
automatically. We also have an Adaptec 29160N SCSI controller. I looked i=
nto
it and realized that this controller is supported under Solaris x86. What
I was wondering is whether we could put this controller into the Ultra 10 a=
nd
utilize it (rather than having to buy Sun's SCSI controller at an outrageous
price). Anyone know if this is possible? I have to think that even if the
OBP doesn't recognize it with probe-scsi-all, the OS could recognize it so
long as the proper drivers were loaded...am I smoking crack with this idea?
I've poured through SunSolve and nothing seems to indicate that this is not
out of bounds. I even found a reference that said that Ultra5/Ultra10 boxes
could not be booted off of disks from Adaptec cards (because OBP doesn't see
them) but could be seen by the OS as long as the drivers are loaded. This
leads me to think that I'm very close to finding the answere but I'm overlo=
oking
something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
