Oddly enough, at my credit union, checking accounts bear the same interest
that savings accounts do.  I do purchase short term CDs when I can.  The
interest isn't great, but it still is an extra $20 or more for money that 
I shouldn't spend anyway.  I might get a 3 month one if 6 weeks for
instance.
