I'm running OS X on a 600MHz imac here, and it's pretty painful. I'm not
sure where the problem lies. Sure, Aqua is slow without graphics
acceleration, but it seems to be more than that. Even when all I'm running
is itunes, the seti at home client, and IE, it can take an age to switch
between apps, and scrolling in both IE and the Finder is pitiful. Under
a similar sort of application load on my Linux/x86 laptop - a few Netscape
windows, mpg123, nautilus - which has the same amount of memory and also
has a 600MHz CPU (so according to apple's propaganda the imac should piss
all over it) it is *much* more responsive.

I'm really not impressed by OS X. It was released too early and too
incomplete. It is lacking support for graphics accelerators and for CD
writers, too of the most important things about the current range of Macs.
