[SunRescue] Can someone tell me what I just bought please?

I like my 670, especially since I got the VME expansion board in and now
have 384 MB of RAM (woohoo!). Now that it's fired up, I'm even less worried
about the basement being cold for the upcoming Minnesota winter <grin>.

Martin- I liked the photos. Everytime I think I'm the only sick bastard with
more computing power than some small countries in my basement, something
like this comes along and lets me know I'm not alone! Next project: get the
FDDI/CDDI cable strung so the NetApp can talk over faster pipe to
everything.

"Hi, my name is Steve, and I have a problem. . ." <grin>

Yes it's a sun4m-class box. It's a fun machine to dink around
with. I've run Redhat on mine (no VME support) while I waited for a
cheap
copy of Solaris 2.5.1, and up until recently, used it as a boot server
for
several IPCs and Classics. Not terribly fast (depends a LOT on the mbus
modules ) but it can tote a load. If you have the notorius SM-100
cypress
proc, do yourself as favour and yank it out and put in at least an
SM41. The SM100 was a very slow module and I believe limited you to
older
versions of SunOS.

Hopefully you don't have too far to ship it, mine cost around 225 to
ship
from San Diego to St Louis. Noisy power-guzzler but a cool conversation
piece. I hope you are single or have a very understanding 'significant
other'.
Let me know when you get it, I'd like to know how it turns out. Get
the part numbers off of the processor module(s) and cards and hit the
Sun
Hardware Reference on this site.

I have a few pics of mine at the URLs below.
