Hi Folks,

I am the lucky new owner of a Sun 4/110 and spare 4/3xx board.

Unfortunately I cannot get either board working properly and=20
have loads of questions for the hardware experts out there.

4/110 (Tagged 501-1237)
--------

(1)
This board fails the "diag" boot with the following message:

    Segment Map Write-Write-Read Test
    Error: at addr 0x1ff80000,expect 0x0000005a, obs ox00000052, =
(looping)

Pressing "space" many times results in sucessful completion of the
remainder of diagnostic testing and the machine will attempt to boot
over the network. The machine does not always boot, and in non "diag"
mode has never booted - although I guess this could be due to the above=20
problem ?

There are three empty sockets on the board - U903 (DCP) U962 (DCP)and U =
2?00 (ANALYSER),=20
but the socket which the FAQ lists for the IDPROM is filled - NOT an =
M48T02 but a smaller socket and chip. =
                                                                         =
                                                                         =
                                                                         =
                                                                         =
                                                                         =
                                                                 =20

(2)

I cannot get this machine to get an RARP host address from a Solaris 8 =
server. I am
attempting to netboot NetBSD. It seems the RARP request packet reaches =
the server
but hardly ever gets passed up the IP stack to the in.rarpd daemon. I =
notice that it uses
an obsolete form of broadcast address and is a smaller packet size than =
one from a more
modern Sun system.

Similarly when it did once get a reply, it failed to download the tftp =
bootstrap. Has anyone
else experienced similar problems and is there any way round this.

4/3xx
--------

This board does find the NetBSD bootstrap but then rapidly fails on =
execution with some
brief message like ??_map where ?? represents overwritten text. The =
bootstrap works with=20
a Sparcstation 2 but, as far as I can see, there is only one bootstrap =
and kernel for all=20
Sparc architectures. The 4/3xx IS listed as a supported architecture.

Any ideas on any of these question greatly appreciated. I would love to =
get this machine=20
working. I believe it is *extremely* fast being almost *half* the speed =
of an IPC !! :-)=20

                                                                         =
   Many Thanks
                                                                         =
