I seem to remember a discussion on the Linux/sun3 mailing list that
there may be a bad capacitor somewhere in the onboard 10base-2
transceiver, which can dry out after a long period, causing spurious
packet loss. Suggested fix was to use an external transceiver.

On Linux/sun3, however, the ethernet driver *far* outperforms the
SCSI driver. I believe it's still true that NFS is faster than local
disks. ;)
