Well, yeah, the S/38 was more directly in the line of ancestral succession, 
but I think there's a large but unhealthy dose of S/36 blood in there, too. 
 I seem to remember that part of the original AS/400 "migration strategy" 
advertising was that S/36 sites wouldn't have to change anything.

Isn't one of the low-end AS/400s really just one of those big-PC-chassis 
S/36s?

IBM's "midrange" line has always been a big pot of confusion.
