Not that this is the best comparison, but I use 2 OS/2 boxes
for my NAT/gateway, one is a 56k modem, 200MHz, the
other is a ThinkPad, 33.6k, 33MHz, and obviously the first
is fastest, but speed differences are neglible.  So I think
a lower end SPARC should do well - the ThinkPad seems to be
as fast as the IPC I use on that network.
