Linux does indeed run SMP on sparc. I've run it on ss10, ss20, and 4/600, on
everything from SM41 to dual HyperSPARCs. Be careful with the SM100, or better
yet, avoid it altogether.
If you're running two SMx1 modules, you *can* mix clock speeds, despite the
documentation and conventional wisdom. It works fine.
