Cross-posted on Sun Rescue and SPARC Linux mail groups.

Although this external CDROM was successfully used to load Linux 6.0 onto my SPARCstation IPX, the system appears to be unable to mount a ufs to the CDROM when trying to reload Solaris.

This sequence of events occurs for both Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6 CDs. Again, everything works fine when loading Red Hat Linux 6.0 for SPARC.

I find it interesting that the message reads "reverting to slow SCSI cable mode." It is an external CD-ROM on a 50 pin cable. From the IPX system unit, the cable goes directly to the CD-ROM. Then, a second cable connects the CD-ROM to an external box containing a second drive and a tape unit. This cable is 50 pin on the CD-ROM side but has a huge number of pins on the external box side.

Any ideas? Does it make a difference (to Solaris) into which scsi port on the CD-ROM the first cable plugs?
