[geeks] going over the cliff

a week ago i learned that gis.net, the isp i've been with for 15 years
is closing shop in about 3 weeks, leaving me to scramble for a
replacement.

they currently give me a static ip and a dns record for my domain
pointing to it, with an alternate mailhost for when mine's
unreachable, and they also handle the modem, redirecting port 25 to
a static ip within my nat. finally, they team with another vendor to
supply voip phone, but they're closing too.

a not-completely-dark spot - they farmed their dsl business out to
dslextreme a year or 2 ago, so i won't necessarily drop off the net
completely, but despite their website dslx says they can't provide me
a static ip here [galaxy does it with a vpn to their loc], and their
idea of 'domain' seems to equate to 'hosted website'.

so far, all the dsl providers i've been able to find either are out of
business, don't cover me, or merged... verizon, the real provider,
has alarming prices. voip looks -a-little- better, but not much - the
companies i've heard of are at the expensive end.

i'm in ma, 01835. anyone have any advice or recommendations?
