Besides fishing for reptiles or insects, holding things together,
if they are big enough hanging things (shiny things to attract people),
bags of food to keep them off the ground, grabing on to trees for antennas,
etc.

Also P-38 or P-51 can openers and "church keys". Here they only sell ones
that are one piece, the blade does not fold. I bought a bunch of P-51s
of of eBay. Cheap and good trade items.

There also is a combination unit which is a spoon, a P-51 type opener
and a bottle opener. They are relatively expensive. A local company made
some without the spoon (smaller and flatter) a few years ago, but when I
used my last I found they no longer made them and refused to answer my
email. :-(

I like the thing about the lighters, they are cheap, easy to get and
hard to damage beyond useability. They also are easy to use, and don't
need kindling, or skill.
