The imaging tool I used was a 'mature' version of Symantec Ghost, R  
11, IIRC, and I would bet that the only way that tool knew how to  
access the eSATA drive was through either the BIOS or some fall-back  
compatibility mode of the controller (appearing as an IDE drive to the  
software. I'm pretty sure it pre-dates SATA mainstream SATA  
implementations...
