true.  sun has never bothered to write/link much shutdown stuff into
/etc/rc?.d/...  some of the init scripts didn't even have stop cases.
i haven't played with s10 yet but expect they're still just as lazy
there.

att sVr3 was purely symmetrical; it didn't matter how you got to
single user mode - things that shouldn't be running were stopped.
