I've had frequent crashes when using putty for serial connections in the 
past on a Vista laptop with a real serial port.  It's been a while since 
I've used it, and no longer run Vista, so hopefully that bug was fixed 
in a newer version of putty, or if it wasn't a putty problem, it's been 
fixed otherwise.  Anyone else have similar issues?
