It was my wife, not Geoff's, and the contents of the package were  
irrelevant to the import charges.  I'm holding the packing slip and  
customs declaration, along with the Israeli Customs form, and nowhere  
is there mention of what's inside the package, other than "New  
Merchandise".

I believe it was based on the declared value of the contents, not the  
contents themselves.  Also, now that I have it in front of me, I see  
that the actual import tax was 46 shekels, and the Postal Service fees  
for clearing it through Customs totaled 110 shekels PLUS TAX.

Even the Postal Service delivery guy said it's robbery.  He said  
someone received a package the other day from the Philippines with a  
value of $70, and was charged over 500 shekels to receive it.  He  
asked why they accepted the package, and the woman replied that it's  
something her husband needs and they have no choice.
