that didn't last long, and it never would've started if mopar had
owned sunbeam when the tiger was conceived.  they probably had a
purchase contract to run out...

the first i know of the buick 215 was with the new skylark of '61 or
'62, based on the same platform as the corvair but conventionally
front engine - rwd.  the only 2 american slant 4s i know of are an
international 152 used in scouts [their jeep] and a pontiac 194, half
a 389 and powering the poncho tempest, their version of the
skylark/corvair.  it was also front engine - rwd, but kept the 'vair
rear tranny and swing axles.

i hadn't heard of anyone else than rover taking the 215 over.  i
recall reading that they redid the casting tech to better suit their
foundries, so the us tooling wasn't worth much.  the rover 3500 and
descendants lasted in the range rover until bmw takeover in the early
'00s.  i don't remember - was rover part of british leyland?

buick converted the design to iron, enlarging it, spun a v6 off, and
enlarged it again.  as a 350 v8 it lasted until '80 or so; as a
225/231/3.8/3800 v6 it spent some time in kaiser willys' hands before
returning during the gas crisis and lasted until only a few years ago.
