Bartlett is in fact a fairly accurate representation of the actor who
plays him (art imitating life) Martin Sheen (aka Ramon Gerardo Antonio
Estivez)

The character has the same religion, a very similar level of observance and
political agenda.

You are rightin that he was painted in a particulary kind light, so that
people would believe in him. At least those that support a left wing,
Roman Catholic agenda.

Those that do not did not like him, his polices, or his show would not
agree with his attracting viewers.
