To the extent that there is a single "du" thing, this is false. Two
NetBSD systems I spot-checked return "du: unknown option -- b" and a
usage line when I try to use du -b.

Based on the preponderance of "--"-prefixed options, and the REPORTING
BUGS, COPYRIGHT, and SEE ALSO sections, I'd say that is for a GNU
version of du, and thus it is incorrect to speak of it as "du" as if
there were only one thing by that name, absent (as here) a GNU-specific
context (an example of such context might be discussing a problem
encountered on a GNU-userland-using Linux distro). I went back and
reread the thread-starting post, and I see no indication of the OS in
question except by implication in the presence of find and ls.
